What is CPV (Cost Per View)?
CPV, or Cost Per View, is the amount a brand pays for each view of a creator's sponsored content. It is calculated by dividing the total brand spend by the total number of views the content receives. For example, if a brand pays a creator $1,000 for a YouTube video that receives 50,000 views, the CPV is $0.02.
Why CPV Matters in Creator Marketing
CPV is one of the two primary metrics brands use to evaluate whether a creator partnership is cost-effective. It answers the question: how much am I paying to get my message in front of one person? For YouTube, competitive CPV ranges from $0.01 to $0.05 depending on the niche. Anything below $0.01 is exceptional value, while anything above $0.10 is considered expensive. CPV varies significantly by platform, content format, and creator tier.
How to Calculate CPV
Formula: CPV = Total Brand Spend / Total Views. If you pay a creator $500 and the video gets 25,000 views, your CPV is $0.02. For creators, understanding your CPV helps you set competitive rates. If your average video gets 30,000 views and the benchmark CPV in your niche is $0.03, your rate should be around $900 per video. Many creators undercharge because they price by follower count instead of by the views they actually deliver.
Industry Benchmarks
YouTube long-form: $0.01 to $0.05 CPV. YouTube Shorts: $0.005 to $0.02 CPV. Instagram Reels: $0.02 to $0.08 CPV. These ranges vary by niche, with finance and technology commanding higher CPVs and lifestyle and entertainment trending lower. CPV is particularly important in markets like India where brands set strict CPV thresholds (such as below 0.10 INR) when evaluating creators.
